1. Jake is just about to enter 5th grade at a new school, and has been saying all summer that he "can't wait." Summer is pretty fun in his mind, but he especially thrives in the busy, structured school environment. He loves to learn!
2. Jake is a mad-fast reader. He picks up huge, thick books and finishes them within a couple of days (or less!). He likes books in a series most of all, like the Fablehaven books by Brandon Mull.
3. He likes dill pickles. In fact, he got a huge jar of them for his birthday!
4. Jake spent hours upon hours on his scooter this summer. I would bet that he has averaged an hour each day circling our driveway and patio. It's his meditation.
5. He is a fabulous traveler. We just got back from our road-trip to Idaho, spent nine days on the road total, and he was content 95% of the time just reading and folding paper monster toy things.
7. He plays the piano really well, and he is starting the trumpet in the 5th grade band. The blurty, bleating sound that he is getting now crack me up. Yesterday he was ready to scare Audrey when she came out of the bathroom with his 'power honks.'
8. When I kiss him goodnight, he grabs me with a tight hug and tells me that he loves me "so much, Mom."
9. He still loves, loves science. Can't wait to see what becomes of his passion in the future...
10. Although he probably wouldn't admit it, his best friend is Audrey. They do have lots of conflict, (to put it nicely); but sibling rivalry aside, they have a lot of fun being crazy together.
